Position Summary:
Work to position the Foundation as a leader in the affordable housing/community
development finance industry by helping increase the flow of capital to
high-risk, low-income housing projects, communities, and neighborhoods
located throughout the country. Help manage the Foundation's
identification of, investment in, and partnership with Leadership
Alliance of best producers and preservers of affordable housing in the
country. Provide day to day management of the Foundations investment in
and relationship with leading community development financial
institutions (CDFIs) to ensure that these partners are helping the
Foundation achieve its goals for "next tier" partnerships and stronger
communities. Identify and promote viable solutions to the lack of
mainstream financial services for underserved consumers and communities.
Position Responsibilities:
- Play a leading role in a cross-functional team to develop and execute
the Foundations strategic approach to housing finance. Serve as
Foundation expert in capital markets and housing finance.
- Advance the Foundations effectiveness and recognition as a national
leader in the affordable housing finance field.
- Work closely with Foundation staff to help unbanked consumers access
mainstream financial services.
- Identify and/or research challenges and effective practices that will
increase the access to mainstream financial services for underserved
consumers and develop methods to share this information with the
industry. Stay abreast of industry trends and identify new
opportunities for the Foundation. Disseminate information to internal
and external stakeholders. Represent the Foundation at local and
national industry events to conduct presentations and to disseminate
knowledge to practitioners and policy makers.
- Serve as a senior member of the team to help identify and manage the
Leadership Alliance of higher performing production and preservation
organizations on which the Foundation will rely as its chief engine for
achieving its goals (and executing associated strategy);
- Support the teams effort to shape the Foundation investment in this
Leadership Alliance to maximize the effectiveness of (a) each member
organization, (b) the Alliance as a whole, and (c) the network of the
Leadership Alliance and other for-profit and nonprofit organizations
with which the Alliance and its members engage in partnerships or
strategic alliances;
Education, Experience and Competencies:
- Minimum of 7 years of related experience working to develop solutions
to housing and community development problems, including a minimum of 5
years in lending, equity investments or grant giving for a government,
non-profit, or private lending organization; comprehensive knowledge and
established relationships with non-profit partners; lenders; federal,
state, and local housing and community development and finance agencies,
builders, developers, community and neighborhood leaders involved in
the promotion of affordable housing and homeownership opportunities
across the country;
- Minimum of 2 years experience in a management, supervisory, or
leadership within the housing finance arena.
- Undergraduate degree in business accounting, finance, real estate,
housing and community development, or equivalent work experience;
- Graduate degree preferred
- Experience working to develop solutions to housing and community
development problems, including a minimum of 5 years in lending, equity
investments or grant giving for a government, non-profit, or private
lending organization; comprehensive knowledge and established
relationships with non-profit partners; lenders; federal, state, and
local housing and community development and finance agencies, builders,
developers, community and neighborhood leaders involved in the promotion
of affordable housing and homeownership opportunities across the
country
- Substantial affordable housing and community development and finance
experience, including relevant exposure to affordable housing financing
and capital markets products and services including knowledge of the
investment tax credit; tax incentive financing; HUD lending programs,
and others
- Strong strategic thinking and planning skills to identify and address
challenges and effective practices that will increase underserved
consumers access to mainstream financial services
- Strong analytical and creative thinking skills to build and share
knowledge and advance the effectiveness of the work
- Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, database, and
presentation applications
- Content expert in outreach strategies and to target populations
- Highly effective written and oral communication skills
- Deep expertise and clear understanding of issues and trends in the
Foundations field of interest
- Refined ability to work collaboratively, both internally with
colleagues and externally with senior executives of nonprofit
organizations, funding partners and state and federal officials
- Strong relationship management skills with the ability to identify and
build strategic alliances with national (and multi-state) partners
- Thorough grasp of affordable housing financing, government support
sources, and overarching regulatory issues
- Demonstrated strategic ability to recognize and promote best practices
in affordable housing development and/or preservation. Extensive
knowledge of the national affordable housing and community development
industry, as well as familiarity with the important local and regional
producers (particularly non-profits) and counseling organizations
